Purchasing Commodity Manager
£28k-£35 pa doe plus benefits
The Company is an international company and is the world's leading supplier of truck and trailer air suspensions, axle systems, springs and bumpers to the heavy duty transportation industry.
Due to reorganisation they are looking for an experienced Purchasing Commodity Manager.
Experience required
Graduate calibre with purchasing experience gained in an automotive, aerospace or low volume manufacturing business to meet the relevant standards
Proven track record and experience of cost reduction programmes and good understanding of manufacturing cost drivers to drive costs to optimum levels
Proven track record and experience of supplier selection programmes for new product development and introduction to ensure the right sourcing decision are made
The Role
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this role exists to ensure specific, assigned suppliers of product and services are identified, selected and managed effectively ensuring optimum total acquisition cost is achieved and overall supplier performance is maximised. This includes managing a portfolio of suppliers and/or commodities, leveraging the full Group spend, driving real cost reduction and improving quality levels within the supply chain.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Driving and implementing specific cost reduction programmes to achieve set targets for material cost reduction
2. Utilising cost and comparative analysis techniques to achieve lowest total acquisition cost for new products and services
3. Driving and implementing specific sourcing strategies to meet changing needs in the supply chain, ensuring the supply chain constantly has the optimum supplier base
4. Conducting commercial negotiations with suppliers
5. To manage a specific portfolio of suppliers to lead and drive a balanced overall improvement in QCD
6. Maximising supplier’s contributions to the new product development process and continuous improvement initiatives
7. Working with suppliers to establish and implement APQP and project timing plans for New Product Development & Introductions, ensuring the successful delivery of QCD goals.
8. Product approvals including supplier PPAP submission sign off.
9. Management of supplier quality concerns including the instigation of containment activities and the tracking of supplier concern responses.
The Person
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Minimum A level standard qualification (Degree or equivalent standard in Business and Finance preferred) and relevant professional qualifications including CIPS or similar
2. Graduate calibre with purchasing experience gained in an automotive, aerospace or low volume manufacturing business to meet the relevant standards
3. Proven track record and experience of cost reduction programmes and good understanding of manufacturing cost drivers to drive costs to optimum levels
4. Proven track record and experience of supplier selection programmes for new product development and introduction to ensure the right sourcing decision are made
5. Experience of Quality Management Systems including TS16949 and QS9000 to comply with company processes
6. Experience of Purchasing strategies to meet business goals in order to drive the business forward
7. Experience of running APQP programmes for new product development, and supplier re-sourcing activities.
8. Working knowledge of concern resolution methodologies (8D, 5 Why etc.)
9. Working knowledge of 6 Sigma tools and techniques.
